Alt Text on Facebook

Adding Alt Text on Desktop

How to add alt text on the desktop version of Facebook:

  1. Click Edit in the upper left corner of an uploaded image before publishing a post.
  2. Select Alternative Text from the listed options in the Photo Detail window.
  3. Write alt text in the provided field.
  4. Click Save.

Editing Alt Text on Desktop

How to edit alt text on the desktop version of Facebook:

  1. Select the image that needs to have its alt text updated.
  2. In the expanded view, click the three dots in the upper right area of the screen.  
  3. Select Change Alt Text from the menu of options that appears.
  4. Edit the image's alt text.
  5. Click Save.

Viewing Alt Text on Desktop

Facebook does not currently have a setting that allows users to view a published post's alt text.

  1. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the uploaded image.
  2. Select Edit Alt Text from the menu of options that appears.
  3. Write alt text in the provided field on the next screen.
